Egyptian Art – Middle Kingdom

In this episode of Armchair Art Share, host Andrew continues our journey along the Nile into one of Egypt’s most introspective eras — the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055–1650 BCE).

Following centuries of chaos and reunification, Egyptian artists began to look inward. The result was art that expressed not only divine power but also human emotion, reflection, and humility.

From the solemn Seated Statue of Pharaoh Mentuhotep II to the serene Block Statues of priests and officials, this was an age that revealed the soul beneath the crown. We’ll also explore the beautifully painted coffins and Coffin Texts, which brought the hope of the afterlife to everyday Egyptians — a profound shift from royal exclusivity to spiritual accessibility.
